DMC Utrecht

Utrecht has preserved its historical character very well. The beautiful 13th century Domkerk and Domtoren are the city’s emblems and a visit to the Dom has to be on your to-do list. Like Amsterdam, Utrecht has a fabulous network of canals and in the summer the city’s residents come out to sit at the water’s edge and enjoy the sun. Utrecht is known for its lovely cafés and on sunny days the city looks like one big outdoor terrace. There is plenty to do as well for those who enjoy shopping: the streets of Utrecht’s picturesque city centre are full of terrific stores.

Utrecht boasts many cultural attractions. One of the highlights is a trip to the Rietveld-Schröderhuis, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. This unique residence was designed by the architect Gerrit Rietveld, one of the founders of the art movement De Stijl. In Amersfoort, not far from Utrecht, you will find the house where Piet Mondriaan was born. Thanks to its central location in the heart of the Netherlands, Utrecht is a popular location for large events. Utrecht has many event locations that are suitable for holding large events, such as the Jaarbeurs Utrecht. Not surprisingly, Utrecht is a popular place for meetings, congresses and events and so there is more than enough to do all year round.

There is plenty to do in the province of Utrecht too. Expansive forests and impressive heathlands are ideal places for the more active type of visitor. There are also lots of 19th century forts dotted around, some of which are deserted and half sunken into the Utrecht landscape, while others are still open to the public.
